After our hottest race of the year, the Summer Sizzler, the Jack Frost is sure to be our coldest! The seventh annual Jack Frost 10K takes place on Sunday, December 13th at Cedar Grove in Bidwell Park. This race is the graduation run for our Fall 10K training program, and benefits two wonderful local non-profit organizations - Catalyst and Wings of Eagles. The Jack Frost is the last race of the year in our race series so it's your last chance to earn some points!
The race takes place at Cedar Grove, starting at 8:00am and the start line is at the deer pens (one bridge up from Cedar Grove). Parking is limited inside the park, so please grab a space out on the street if you find one.
The race is open to runners only as the course is only open for 90 minutes. The course goes into both Lower and Upper Bidwell Park. Runners start at the Deer Pens near Cedar Grove, and head out towards Upper Bidwell Park. After passing under the Manzanita bridge, the course heads through 5 Mile Recreation Area, and over the footbridge. On the other side of the footbridge, the course turns left and into the wooded area heading towards Wildwood Park. It turns left onto the footbridge at Wildwood Ave. and then takes another quick left onto the levee heading back towards 5 Mile. At the intersection, runners turn right towards Manzanita and go back under the bridge. On the other side, the course turns right over the footbridge, and then left onto the trail adjacent to No Park Dr. Runners, continue on the trail and switch onto the road at approximately Mile 4.75. The course goes left onto the footbridge at Hwy 99, and then left onto So. Park Dr before heading back to the finish line at Cedar Grove. PLEASE NOTE: depending on weather and requirements from the Chico Parks Department, the course may be altered to protect the sensitive park terrain.
We are so thankful for all of the sponsors of this race!
And a HUGE thank you to our Chico Firefighters for being our emergency team at the race!
Course Marking and Chip Timing
Mile markers will be posted every mile and the race will be chip timed. Please follow the instructions for using the timing device to ensure an accurate race time. It is important that you arrive on time to receive an accurate time for the event. Start line mats are removed promptly after the start of the race. Course monitors will be along the course to cheer you on and to provide course direction. Aid stations will be provided at two points along the course. Lifeline is our first aid provider at the event.
We'll have post race refreshments so you can refresh yourself after the race.
Post Race Awards Ceremony
Because the weather can be rather “frosty” in mid December, the awards ceremony will be hosted at Fleet Feet, starting at 11:00am. We will be having Peet's Coffee as well as hot drinks and munchies. The top three finishers, male and female, will receive awards. There will also be age group prizes. All participants who come to the awards ceremony with bib in hand will receive a $10 gift voucher to the store (good for the day only). What a great way to start your Christmas shopping and holiday celebrations!
Packet pickup will be held at Fleet Feet on Saturday, December 12th, from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Participants can authorize other individuals to pick up packets for them. This is a good time to also check out our various sponsors and what their businesses have to offer! Please bring a new, unwrapped toy to the packet pickup that the children involved in Catalyst and Wings of Eagles will be able to have for Christmas!
Early registration for this event is just $15, until October 31st. November 1st-31st registration will be $20. December 1st through race day will be $25. However, we do request that you bring a new, unwrapped toy to the store as part of your entry. The beneficiaries of the Jack Frost are Catalyst and Wings of Eagles. Both organizations support families in need and, during the holidays, a special gift will make a big difference. So, we ask all participants to bring a children's gift. It can be dropped off at Fleet Feet any time in the week leading up to the race.
Please Note: Race entries are not transferable to another person and there are no refunds.
For an additional $24, you can purchase a very cool long-sleeved cotton event shirt; the deadline for buying a shirt is December 1st. These event shirts have become collectors items over the last few years!.
If you are unable to race the Jack Frost 10K, but would still like to be part of the event, you can enjoy participating by helping out on event day. Volunteer positions include course monitor and aid station positions around the course, course set up and tear down, helping to hand out packets before the race, and helping to make sure race finishers know where to go for refreshments after they complete their event. Volunteers play the very important role of ensuring event safety and helping to encourage participants. It is a rewarding and fun way to be part of a race. Race volunteers will receive $30 off a training program or a free entry into the Summer Sizzler in August. If you are interested in helping out, contact Carly Boettcher at 530-879-9000 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Don't forget the Race Series!
The Jack Frost 10K is the final event qualifying for the 2015 Race Series.
We have two beneficiaries of the event. Both organizations provide significant service to our community. Check out their web site for details and visit their booth on race day.
